Bald Faced Hornets

I harboured this Bald Faced Hornets Nest in a Giant Sequoia tree in the garden in back of my apartment. The immediate reaction to such nests is extermination, so I kept it secret to allow these pollinators/pest controllers to survive the summer. I succeeded and know of not a single sting suffered, though the area was not untravelled.

Willows Beach in July

Can't resist photographing those herons. This Great Blue Heron picked about in the shallows looking to spear small fish, but flew away empty beaked.

Long Absence

Ooops.
Following my usual pattern, I started this blog off with a bang - then fizzled.
Truly, I got busy with my summer job working as an onboard biologist for a whale watching outfit in Victoria. Not many shots from that, as the photographer/biologist duel role was hard to balance. Will post the whale shots I have, soon...

Now I'm in Nanaimo keeping my grandmother company and embarking on my freelance career. It's a little daunting having been out of the loop since right after graduation in June, but I'm looking forward to exploring a new photographic area.
